About Us

Our Journey Towards Empowering Individuals for Meaningful Careers and Independent Futures

At Sakura Family Home, we focus on developing compassionate and skilled caregivers through specialized education, hands-on training, and cultural readiness tailored to the Japanese healthcare environment. By integrating caregiving expertise, Japanese language education, and workplace preparation, we support diploma nurses and nursing professionals in advancing their careers and contributing effectively to healthcare institutions across Japan.

Our Vision

Our vision is to build a trusted and sustainable bridge between Bangladesh and Japan by transforming care into long-term professional opportunity. Drawing on decades of experience rooted in compassion, responsibility, and human dignity, Sakura Family Home seeks to develop a new model of human resource development that responds to the real needs of Japan’s healthcare system.

We envision a future in which caregiving is recognized not merely as labor, but as a skilled and respected profession—supported by proper education, hands-on training, and deep cultural understanding. Through this approach, diploma nurses and nursing professionals are prepared to meet Japanese standards with confidence, professionalism, and a strong sense of ethical responsibility.

Our vision extends beyond individual employment. By nurturing healthcare professionals who are linguistically capable, culturally prepared, and committed to quality care, we aim to contribute to the stability and sustainability of healthcare institutions across Japan. At the same time, we believe that well-structured career pathways empower individuals to grow personally and professionally, creating long-term value for both their home communities and their host society.

As Sakura Family Home moves forward from its origins in care into its next chapter of career development, our vision is to serve as a reliable partner to educators, healthcare institutions, and communities. Through steady collaboration and continuous learning, we strive to shape a future where care leads to opportunity, responsibility leads to trust, and professional growth benefits society as a whole.

Our Mission

At Sakura Family Home, our mission is to develop competent, compassionate, and culturally prepared nursing and caregiving professionals from Bangladesh who are ready to build sustainable careers in Japan’s healthcare sector. Building on decades of experience rooted in care, responsibility, and human dignity, we provide a structured pathway that transforms caregiving foundations into professional growth opportunities.

We deliver comprehensive preparation aligned with Japanese healthcare standards, including Japanese language education, nursing and caregiving skill development, and cultural and workplace orientation. Our programs are designed not only to enhance technical competence, but also to foster professionalism, ethical responsibility, and an understanding of expectations within Japanese medical and caregiving institutions.

Beyond education and training, Sakura Family Home supports candidates throughout the entire transition process. This includes guidance on visa procedures, interview preparation, coordination with employers, and job placement support, ensuring a smooth and transparent pathway from training to employment in Japan.

Through close collaboration with Japanese healthcare partners, educational institutions, and related organizations, we aim to create a trusted talent pipeline that benefits both individuals and institutions. Our mission is to contribute to Japan’s healthcare workforce by nurturing professionals who are prepared to work with confidence, integrity, and long-term commitment.

Our Journey

Sakura Family Home’s journey began in 1991, when a small group of committed supporters in Japan came together with a shared determination to support orphaned children in Bangladesh. This vision took institutional form through the establishment of the Japan–Bangladesh Cooperation Foundation, and in 1992, on-the-ground orphanage activities were initiated in Bangladesh.

In 1994, this journey reached a significant milestone with the establishment of Sakura Family Home in the Gazipur area on the outskirts of Dhaka. On July 23 of that year, the home officially opened its doors with five children. The opening was made possible through the kind consideration of the late Ms. Motoye Hayakawa, wife of the late Mr. Takashi Hayakawa, a member of the National Diet who served as an important bridge between Japan and Bangladesh. At a time when operating an orphanage in Bangladesh involved considerable challenges, Sakura Family Home was supported by the Embassy of Japan, Dr. Moazzem Hossain and his wife residing in Bangladesh, and many supporters in Japan and around the world.

Over the following decades, Sakura Family Home continued its journey guided by a shared philosophy embraced across the organization: to provide children not only with shelter, but with the warmth and stability of a family. With the dedication of local staff, volunteers, and donors, the home sought to nurture children to grow into honest, compassionate, and responsible members of society. Rather than expanding beyond its means, Sakura Family Home chose to focus on caring deeply for each child as an individual.

As the years progressed, the organization navigated numerous challenges together. These included the loss of long-time supporters, periods of organizational transition, the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and external pressures that affected daily operations. At the same time, declining membership in Japan led to a significant reduction in membership fees and donations, which eventually covered only about one-quarter of the operating costs.

In response, and with the safety and dignity of the children as the highest priority, the founding members and management team worked collectively to review and strengthen operational structures and policies. As part of this effort, a co-founder resumed an active role in guiding the organization through its final phase. At its closing stage, Sakura Family Home continued to support 21 children, made possible by the dedication of 8 local staff members.

After exhaustive efforts to sustain the orphanage, Sakura Family Home reached the difficult but responsible decision to conclude its orphanage operations at the end of June 2025. This marked the close of 31 years of dedicated service, reflecting a shared and carefully considered judgment focused on the long-term well-being of the children and the realities of sustainable operation.

Throughout this journey, Sakura Family Home has been sustained by the trust, generosity, and cooperation of supporters in Japan and around the world. Their continued encouragement made it possible to protect, nurture, and educate the children entrusted to the organization’s care.

Today, building on the values and lessons cultivated over more than three decades, Sakura Family Home is moving forward into a new chapter—the “Second Project.” This next phase focuses on human resource development for young people in Bangladesh, including Japanese language education, practical agricultural training, and the cultivation of moral values, manners, and social responsibility. Through this evolution, the journey of Sakura Family Home continues, aiming to serve as a meaningful bridge between Japan and Bangladesh.

With deep gratitude for the support received over the years, Sakura Family Home looks ahead with responsibility and hope as this new stage unfolds.
